In the Media: Apple announces “abandonment” of these iPhone holders

Your time is up

And Apple dropped from its accounts the holders of the iPhone 7, 7 Plus, iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, in addition to the first generation of the iPhone SE phone, and this means that holders of these phones will not be able to take advantage of the new features that Apple will introduce in the new operating system.

Technology development specialist Hisham Al-Natour said, in an interview with “Sky News Arabia”, that Apple usually supports its devices with updates for a period lasting up to 5 years, but this situation changed during the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, as it extended the support period for iPhone 6 phones. S and 6S Plus to 7 years, and this extension also included the 7 and 7 Plus phones, as they continued to support them for about 6 years.

And now, with the markets recovering and the Covid-19 virus receding, Apple decided to return to its base, and send a message to holders of 5 types of iPhone that “your time is over”, prompting them to decide to replace their phones during the next few months in case they want to keep up with the new features.

Tech nightmare

Technology and Marketing Specialist George Dagher said, in an interview with “Sky News Arabia” that there are 3 reasons that prompted Apple to decide to stop supporting some of its phones with the new system. The ability to integrate with the features it provides.

The second reason is that Apple wants everyone to use the same operating system on similar devices from a technical point of view, and it considers the presence of several operating systems for iPhone phones as a “technical nightmare” that hinders its renewal process.

The third reason is to push people to buy new iPhones, as if Apple continues to give holders of old iPhones new features, they will not buy new phones, which means that the company limits its profits.
